Cuba and Russia are strengthening bonds of friendship and brotherhood on a necessary multi-polar world, on occasion of celebrating the 50th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations.
"We are celebrating 50 years of the Russian-Cuban diplomatic ties with a concrete assessment, as an example of links between brother peoples," the island's ambassador to this country Juan Valdes Figueroa said.
Diplomats, former ambassadors to Cuba, and veterans attended a round table held in the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States, compatriot residents abroad, and international humanitarian cooperation (Rossatrudnuchistva).
"The signing of 36 bilateral accords in January 2009, including almost all ministries from both countries, is a concrete example of the advance of those referred ties," Valdes Figueroa stated.
Carlos Valdes, second advisor of the Cuban diplomatic mission in Russia, stressed the fact that the Parliament of this country unanimously voted several times in the last five years resolutions against the US blockade on Cuba.
Such unprecedented fact was repeated in the demands to release Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Rene Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando Gonzalez, universally known as the Five, unfairly imprisoned in the United States, he noted.
Valdes also highlighted Cuba's excellent ties with the Orthodox Church, the attendance of Russian Patriarch Kiril in the opening ceremony of that church in Havana, and his positive relations with Cuban leader Fidel Castro and President Raul Castro.
Representatives of the Russian Association of Friendship with Cuba referred to actions to support the island and increase international solidarity with that nation, as well as reject maneuvers to discredit the Revolution.
Participants in the round table talked of the island's Culture Minister Abel Prieto's visit to Moscow, and Russia's participation as a guest to the Book Fair held in Cuba.
