Debates are now underway at the , with 1,000 presentations and 2,000 delegates from 35 countries, including officials from several governments.
Hamadoun Toure, Secretary Seneral of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), begins the meeting with his lecture "Broadband: the key to accelerating progress towards the millennium development goals."
Subsequently, seven of the 14 events taking place in parallel with the Convention will be opened, and run until February 11 at the Havana Conference Center and the Pabexpo fairgrounds.
At an ITU workshop with Toure's attendance, participants will discuss updating the organization's rules, a process that take place in 2012.
Jorge Luis Perdomo, president of the convention organizing committee, highlighted the implementation of projects with the Cuba's strategic technological partners such as China, Russia and Spain.
This event will be also an opportunity to boost agreements with members of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America, said Perdomo, who is also deputy minister of Informatics and Communication, stated.
A business forum with representatives from 80 companies in 17 countries, half of them Cubans, will also be held as part of the Convention.
