Cuba''s ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, Anayansi Rodriguez, has thanked the executive director of the South Center, Martin Khor, for the support of the organization in the fight to end the U.S. blockade.
Diplomatic sources said today that Rodriguez met with Khor to express gratitude for the help of the entity to fight against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by Washington for more than 50 years.
She particularly referred to 'the substantive contribution of the Center to the Report by the UN Secretary General under the resolution of the UN General Assembly that each year requests the lifting of the blockade,' the diplomatic note said.
For his part, Khor reaffirmed his support for the Cuban cause and said that he believed that the restoration of diplomatic relations between Cuba and the U.S. nation was an encouraging step.
Rodriguez acknowledged that the normalization of bilateral ties will be driven only by the definitive lifting of the blockade against Cuba, the statement said.
Khor expressed his great admiration for Cuban solidarity, which has contribution to the development of other nations in the South, despite having few material resources and the limitations imposed by the blockade.
