Cuba's Council of Ministers approved the creation of two new ministries, Industry, and Energy and Mines, according to local media.

The ministries will emerge from the transformation of the Ministry of Basic Industry, a decision aimed at solving the problems identified in the sector, and to the progress in the separation of state and corporate functions, says Granma newspaper.

According to the source, the Ministry of Industry comes from the fusion of the iron and steel, light and chemistry industries.

For its part, the Ministry of Energy and Mines will develop its action on oil, electricity and mining matters.

Cuba´s Council of Ministers also approved at its lastest meeting, held last Friday, to improve the work of the ministries of Finance and Prices, and Labour and Social Security.

The decisions are framed in the guidelines of the 6th Congress of the Communist Party, held in April 2010, to update the country's economic model.
