Cuba Urges Respect for Sovereignty of Nations

Cuban ambassador to the United Nations, Pedro Nuñez Mosquera, has urged respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the countries affected by natural disasters, after expressing his solidarity with Pakistan.
Cuba rejects the imposition of ambiguous concepts which are easy to manipulate to violate the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and non-interference in the internal affairs of other States, said Nuñez Mosquera.
Addressing the topic of the agenda on the reinforcement of the coordination of emergency humanitarian aid given by the UN, the Cuban diplomat noted that it is the affected country that is in charge of dispensing the aid and calling for international support.
The ambassador expressed his condolences for the over 1600 dead left by heavy rains in Pakistan, the worst in 80 years, which have affected 20 million people, including 3.5 million children who are at risk of contracting serious diseases.
"Our needy Pakistani brothers could have many more dead if the international community does not immediately offer aid," said Nuñez Mosquera in his speech at the United Nations plenary.
After recalling Cubaâ�Ös collaboration to Pakistan when a quake pounded that country a few years ago, the diplomat stressed that the Caribbean country will continue giving its support with the professionals trained by the Revolution.
