Cuban and U.S. delegations started here today the second round of talks to reestablish diplomatic links and open their respective embassies in both capitals.
As it was scheduled, conversations started around 09:00 local time at the venue of the State Department, meeting that follows that which was held in Havana on January 22, a little over a month after the announcement made by presidents Raul Castro and Barack Obama of moving forward to normalization of relations.
Both parts advanced the meeting is asimed at the restoration of diplomatic links and the opening of their respective embassies, to replace the present Interest Sections. The same as the round held in the Cuban capital, Director General of the United States at the Cuban Foreign Ministry, Josefina Vidal, heads the delegation of the Caribbean nation while the Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Roberta Jacobson, heads the hosting delegation.
Press rounds with both officials are expected when the talks end, raising expectations worldwide.
For its link to the issue of reestablishment of relations, during the talks between Havana and Washington, highlight the exclusión of Cuba from the list of sponsors of terrorism, the impossibility of the Cuban Interests Section here to access a bank and the behavior regulations for diplomats once the embassies are opened.
Vidal said to Cuban journalists accredited to cover this second round, that Cuba expects answers from the United States on the preoccupations expressed during the first round.
