Cuba will parade between Palestine and Burkina Faso in position number 46 on Friday at the opening ceremony for the 29th Olympic Games, reported Granma newspaper.

The order of appearance the 205 International Olympic Committee member countries  is based on the country names, this time calculated by the number of strokes in the first character of the simplified Chinese translation. The method is a shift from the traditional system whereby the first letter of the country’s name in the Latin alphabet is used to order the appearance of each sports delegation.

With 165 athletes, Cuba has the second largest Latin American delegation after Brazil with 283. The countries with the most competitors are the United States (636), China (628), Russia (466), Germany (457) and Australia (440).

The Cuban delegation was to be completed today with the arrival of the baseball team from South Korea, cyclist Lisandra Guerra from Switzerland, and the rest of the track and field athletes coming from Madrid and Havana, led by 110-hurdles world record holder Dayron Robles.
Robles is the most popular Cuban in China today because of his rivalry with Chinese idol Liu Xiang. The two are expected to face each other in the finals on August 21.

In all, Cuba will participate in 16 sports and 102 different competitions.
