Cuban blind swimmer Adonis Leon lowered his personal time by two seconds in the 100-M freestyle, days before the beginning of the 13th Paralympic Games of Beijing.
The swimmer's trainer Maria Isabel Ramon D Mares timed him at
1:19 minutes, two seconds less than his national record set in the World Cup in Manchester, Great Britain, where he won the silver medal.
D Mares is very optimistic about Leon's results in the competition beginning September 8 in the Water Cube in Beijing, where he has been training for a few days.
Leon (35) has gotten used to the time difference and he is in very good shape. I think he could lower that mark, said the trainer.
In 2002, Leon finished fifth in the First IPC World Championship in Argentina and later he won the bronze and silver medals at the World IBSA Games in Canada, 2003, in the 800-M freestyle events.
In addition, Leon finished fifth in Athens 2004 Paralympics and in 2006 he won the bronze medal at the IPC World Championship and the silver medal at the IBSA World Games in Brazil, 2007.
