Organizations of the Cuban civil society commemorate today the Human Rights Day with a call for respect for individual freedoms in the world.
Religious representatives and friends of the island have worked to remember the date instituted in 1950 by the UN General Assembly.
The Cuban Interfaith Platform, which integrates leaders of the seven religions instituted on the Caribbean island, conducted a symposium to discuss issues of religious freedom in the House of the Alba in this capital.
The coordinator of the Cuban Pastoral Platform, Pablo Oden Marichal, said at the time that the greatest enemy of peace, freedom, rights and democracy is terrorism.
The episcopal leader said that humanity has the right to live in peace and that the organization he represents solidarizes itself with the struggle for the return of the Cuban fighters against terrorism Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino and Antonio Guerrero, imprisoned in the United States.
Only Fernando Gonzalez and Rene González were released from prison and are in Cuba with their families after serving their entire sentences.
For his part, the President of the Spiritualist Society of Havana, Enrique Aleman said that the Platform is an organization focused on human betterment, and is proof of the religious freedom enjoyed by the Cuban people.
Similarly, in an activity held at the headquarters of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), its president, Kenia Serrano, said that Cuba summons the embrace of solidarity, because "it is everyone's house."
Serrano said that "Cuba receives the International Human Rights Day amidst the process of updating the socialist model that seeks as its main objectives the improvement of the quality of life of our people, which is summarized, according to him, as the concept of a "prosperous and sustainable socialism."
The Meeting of Solidarity for the Rights of the Peoples reunited here representatives from different geographic areas, friends of the mission of Puerto Rico, students of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Palestine, Chile, Ghana, and members of the Committee of Solidarity for the Freedom of the Cuban Five, prisoners in US jails.
