The Operation Miracle, involving Cuban health collaborators offering free eye surgery to poor people in Paraguay, continued its program of ophthalmology screening, this time in Ciudad del Este, reported the leadership of the brigade.
This program over the weekends is being carried out by specialists in coordination with Foundation TUPI, devoted to social activities with the elderly.
Operation Miracle benefits the poorest sectors in Paraguay in close collaboration with the Cuban medical brogade in this country, said the leader of the group, Carlos Alberto Perea.
On this occasion, 102 patients were seen and 30 were chosen for surgery at the Maria Auxiliadora Ophthalmology Center in the Tomas Romero Pereira district, in Itapua department, some 480 km from Asuncion, where the Cuban brigade has its headquarters.
At least 1,520 surgeries have been carried out as part of Operation miracle this year, including 1,605 cataract surgeries, for a total of 25,655 in eight years of collaboration.
