Cuba''s education minister, Ena Elsa Velázquez, today reaffirmed the commitment of teachers to the legacy of the eternal Commander-in-Chief, Fidel Castro.
'His lessons of loyalty to duty and absolute dedication to the wonderful work of training the new generation, make him bigger,' Velázquez said in a message of congratulation on the occasion of Educator's Day, which commemorates the 55th anniversary of the declaration of Cuba as territory free of illiteracy.
The central event celebrating the anniversary will be held in the emblematic Ciudad Escolar Libertad, home of the Pedagogical Scientific Complex in the Cuban capital.
In the statement, released to local media, Velázquez said that Cuban professionals have a duty to bring education to others beyond Cuba, which, 'is our covenant of hope with humanity in the battle we are fighting for the poor of the earth.'
She also highlighted the importance of the National Literacy Campaign, which culminated on December 22nd, 1961, which she considers part of the genuine work of the Revolution.
On behalf of the Ministry of Education, the minister recognized the exemplary attitude of Cuban teachers and sent her homage and gratitude for the noble and humanistic task they undertake.
