Cuban Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque started this Monday official talks with Russian legislators and government leaders, as part of his visit to this country.
Perez Roque arrived in Moscow on Saturday following an invitation made by his peer Serguei Lavrov, to boost links between Moscow and Havana, reported Prnsa Latina news agency
The two ministers are to ink this week the bilateral consultations plan for 2009, and exchange on current international problems, the diplomat told Prensa Latina.
The Cuban Minister reiterated Russia and Cuba's interest of enhancing economic cooperation.
Perez Roque will be received this Monday by First Vicepresident of the Federation Council Alexander Torshin, and vicepresident of the State Duma (the lower house) Liubov Sliska.
After visiting sites of historic interest in Moscow, the Caribbean nation’s diplomat met Sunday with members of the Russia-Cuba Friendship Society and the Committee of Collaboration with Latin America.
The Foreign Minister expressed gratitude for the multiple examples of support in the island's struggle against the blockade and the release of five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters unfairly imprisoned in the United States.
He highlighted the important presence of the Russian youth in the movement of solidarity with Cuba, to continue the indestructible ties of friendship between both peoples.
Later on the day Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin on Monday welcomed Perez Roque, with whom he conversated at length on the bilateral relationships between the two countries.
