Cuba’s medical brigade in Suriname sent a message to congratulate their fellow health workers in Cuba and in other
countries, on the occasion of Latin American Medicine Day, celebrated on December 3.
The group ratified to the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and to President Raúl Castro, their commitment to continue carrying out this noble task and bringing hope to all communities and patients, with
human sensitivity and a high scientific level.
On their letter, physicians of the “José Martí” Number One Column, now working in that South American nation, expressed their gratefulness to the Cuban Revolution for the development and significance of the internationalist nature of Cuban medicine, provided free of charge.
In a short period of time, Cuban specialists in Suriname have seen more than 45,000 patients, 12,000 of them in their homes in isolated communities, for which they have had to cross rivers and walk through forests.
Suriname is located between French Guyana to the east, Guyana to the west, and Brazil to the south, and adjacent to the Atlantic Ocean, to the north.
