Cuban Literacy Method Takes Hold in Australia
The graduation of 45 indigenous Australians from a literacy program based on the Cuban method "Yo, Si Puedo" (Yes, I Can), has caught on in this country to such an extent that many institutions are planning to offer similar courses throughout the country's enormous territory.

The graduation of 45 indigenous Australians from a literacy program based on the Cuban method "Yo, Si Puedo" (Yes, I Can), has caught on in this country to such an extent that many institutions are planning to offer similar courses throughout the country's enormous territory.
The new literate group, belonging to the communities of Bourke and Enngonia, about 800 kilometers northeast of Sydney, is the first result of a campaign that will stretch to other Australian autochthonous populations, according to a report from the Cuban embassy in this capital.
"Yo, Si Puedo" was an influence in the creation of the Literacy for Life Foundation that will receive financial support from the University of New England, the federal government and the State of New South Wales, the Brookfield Multiplex company, and the Penrith Panther rugby team. D uring the ceremony held at the iconic Bourke National Park, many of the graduates expressed gratitude for the literacy training.
The success of "Yo, Si Puedo" in Australia and other countries has been recognized and honored by UNESCO. It is a method that can adapt to the culture and idiosyncrasies of any community.
