The Cuban medical brigade celebrates 11 years of presence in Bolivia with the satisfaction of having served more than 65 million patients, affirmed the chief of assistance of the doctors, Alina Ochoa.
During this time doctors saved more than 94 thousand human lives and assisted about 49 thousand deliveries.
In addition, there were more than 200 thousand operations and 678 thousand eye surgeries, thanks to Operation Miracle.
This work, which was reactivated in November 2016 by President Evo Morales at the Ophthalmological Center of the city of El Alto, resulted in 677 555 people recovering their vision, not just Bolivians, it was also a benefit for Peruvians, Argentines, Brazilians and Paraguayans , the source recalled.
Cuba sent the first doctors in 2006 and since then we have worked in the nine Bolivian departments (provinces).' We reach the most intricate places, we learn from the citizens and we give them the best attention,' Ochoa said.
The Cuban doctor also emphasized that thanks to the mission in Bolivia 15 ophthalmological centers were repaired in this country and more than 30 hospitals were founded. To this is added the signing of several agreements on the exchange of medicines and traditional Andean medicine research.
Moto Méndez mission, in which a study on disabilities was made, is among the programs carried out by Caribbean doctors that began in 2010.
Among the achievements of the Moto Méndez mission are the training of human resources in physical medicine, rehabilitation and genetics.
Currently the Cuban brigade has 740 members in all departments of the Andean-Amazonian nation, which work in 114 integral community centers, 30 community hospitals and seven ophthalmological units.
