Cuban Nickel Production Back on Track
The minister of the Cuban Basic Industry, Yadira Garcia, said that the production of nickel in the plants of Moa and Nicaro, in Holguin province, is gradually getting back on track after the damages caused there by Hurricane Ike last week.

The minister of the Cuban Basic Industry, Yadira Garcia, said that the production of nickel in the plants of Moa and Nicaro, in Holguin province, is gradually getting back on track after the damages caused there by Hurricane Ike last week.
According to Granma news daily, Garcia noted that the country is ready to fulfil important commitments and that nickel will continue to be one of Cuba’s top exports.
The minister praised the efforts made by workers and executives of the Cuban nickel industry, which allow them to officially announce that the production of nickel in Holguin is ready to continue.
During a visit to the mining region of northeast Holguin on Sunday, Garcia announced that the Pedro Soto Alba plant in Moa began producing nickel sulphur last Friday, while production at the Rene Ramos Latour plant will begin soon.
With regards to the Ernesto Che Guevara plant in Moa, which suffered the greatest damage, the minister of the Basic Industry said that it is also preparing to restart its production.
