Cuban singer songwriter Silvio Rodriguez will give a concert in this capital, at the coastal Facade of Lopez'' Palace, as the Paraguayan government house is known.
Paraguayan President Fernando Lugo, the Secretary of Information and Communication for Development, the National Culture Secretary and Asuncion's Municipal Government invited the Cuban singer songwriter, who will perform in Paraguay for the first time.
Being in this country "is a perspective" of the changes that have been recently experienced, he said.
"This is a process that is beginning, with huge interests against. In a way, I am here for all the Paraguayan people, but also supporting this process. I do not have messages. I have songs," said the writer of "Ojala."
Silvio, a legendary figure of the Cuban Nueva Trova movement, will be accompanied by his musicians Niurka Gonzalez, Oliver Valdes and the Trovarroco Trio, composed of Rachid Lopez, Maykel Elizarde and Cesar Bacaro.
The artist was honored on Thursday night as an illustrious visitor by Asuncion's Municipal Government, and the Secretariat of Culture declared his visit as of national interest.
"His voice has encouraged us during long nights in the dictatorship period, and has endured for generations," said Culture Minister Ticio Escobar at the municipal theater, where he was honored.
During the honoring ceremony, Silvio said it was encouraging that artists as Ricardo Flecha, whose work is in the context of the New Latin American Song Writing, have translated his songs into Guarani language.
Silvio Rodriguez's discography includes 84 albums, 57 of which are collaborations with other artists.
Saturday's concert, called Te Doy Una Cancion (I Give You a Song) is part of the celebrations for the 200 anniversary of the Republic of Paraguay's independence.
