The 2013-2014 sugarcane harvest requires to increase the results in sugar milling in the country, affected by industrial lost time lost and rain, Sugar Group Azcuba reported today.
According to the company's No. 6 report on the development of the campaign, the country reaches 68.7 percent in using industrial capacities, equivalent to 95 percent of the plan.
The time lost by the industry, which exceeds 5 percent of the planned average, has hit to a greater extend the eastern provinces of Las Tunas, Holguin, and Granma, and western provinces of Matanzas and Mayabeque, in which that rate exceeds 20 percent.
Regarding damage by humidity in the countryside, they are mainly registered so far in Villa Clara, Cienfuegos, Camaguey, and Mayabeque.
According to Azcuba, about 41 sugar factories from 13 provinces that have sugar mills are processing at this moment, 18 of which started operations in advance, 15 in the scheduled chronogram, and eight with delays.
Six sugar factories should begin this week, so only two sugar factories are about to begin: the Urbano Noris sugar mill in Holguin, on Monday, Jan. 20, and the Brasil sugar mill belonging to Camaguey, in March, entailing several paralyzed campaigns and will begin activities this year.
