The 13th Cuban Congress of Surgery 2016 is concluding today in Havana after three days of sessions with delegates participating from more than 20 countries.
The agenda today includes discussions on surgical procedures on organs such as the liver, the bile duct and the pancreas, as well as on hernias and breasts.
Experts from the Dominican Republic, Panama, Ecuador, Chile, Angola, Nigeria, South Africa, Italy, Spain, Canada and the United States, among others, will also analyze techniques such as transplantation, video-assisted nephrectomy and intestinal invagination.
In the context of the congress, Cuban Deputy Health Minister, Alfredo Gonzalez, praised the work carried out by the 1,929 surgical specialists who guarantee services in his country.
Prior to the event, which was organized by the Cuban Society of Surgery and the Conference Center in Havana, professors gave pre-congress courses.
The courses covered topics such as hernia surgery, bile surgery and minimal access surgery, thoracic surgery, oncological surgery, as well as breast disorders surgery.
