Cuban Yeimar Lopez made it to the 800 meter dash finals after he came in second at the first semi-final in just 1:46:40 minutes, after Kenyan Wilfred Bungei (1:46:23).
Lopez, Pan American Champ in Rio 2007 and Grand Prix Champ in Athens this year, reached the semi-finals after his victory in the eliminatory competition yesterday.
The Cuban athlete will face Bungei again in the Final competition slated for August 24, which will also be contested by Kenyan Alfred Yego, Sudanese Ismail Ahmed, Canadian Gary Reed, Algerian Nabil Madi and Nadjim Manseur, and Yusuf Kamel, of Bahrain.
Lopez arrived at the Olympics bearing the best fourth score of the year set at 1:43:07.
