Cubans resident in the Seychelles carried out a five-kilometer walk through the mountains of this island in the Indian Ocean, in solidarity with four anti-terrorist fighters who remain imprisoned in the United States for warning their country about terrorist actions being plotted against it.
Before their departure, the demonstrators participated in a brief ceremony, demanding the release of Gerardo Hernandez, Fernando Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero, and Ramon Labañino, held in high-security U.S. federal prisons since September 1998.
Rene Gonzalez was sentenced along with them. After completing his sentence, he left prison in October 2012 and was forced to remain in Miami on supervised release. Now in Cuba, Gonzales is spearheading the national campaign for the release of his comrades.
A representation of 38 Cuban physicians and health and sports technicians working in this country, staff from the Cuban embassy, and Cubans with permanent Seychelles residency participated in the walk through the mountains of the Seychelles.
The marchers wore yellow shirts and ribbons "the color symbolizing the international campaign this year of solidarity with the Five," while carrying the flags for Cuba and the Seychelles, Cuban delegation head Orlando Alvarez told Prensa Latina.
The initiative was also intended to celebrate the 53rd anniversary of the founding of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) and the 8th Congress of the CDRs, which like the Five, have the mission of safeguarding Cuba from terrorist actions.
