Cuba''s First Vice President, Miguel Diaz-Canel, arrived today at the headquarters of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) in Ecuador, where he will participate in the Fourth Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).
Ecuador's President, Rafael Correa, received with a hug the head of the Cuban delegation, also comprised of Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodriguez, and other officials.
We hope this will be a successful summit to strengthen integration and agreement between the countries and peoples of the region, Diaz-Canel said yesterday, upon his arrival in this South American country.
The head of the Cuban delegation also pointed that he attends the 4th continental meeting of CELAC with the will to defend the founding principles of an organization he described as essential, legitimate, unitary, and diverse.
We defend above all unity within our diversity, he said.
The Cuban first vice president also conveyed a warm greeting to the "Ecuadorian brother people and its government" by the Cuban people, the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, and President, Raul Castro.
Shortly after arriving in the capital, Diaz-Canel paid tribute to Ecuadorian national hero, Eloy Alfaro.
