The Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Cuba reaffirmed their desire to strengthen bilateral exchanges, political ties, and continue exploring for a more effective collaboration.
According to diplomatic sources, such intention was reaffirmed during the working visit carried out in Kinshasa on Feb. 1-2, by the director of the Sub-Saharan Africa department at the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Angel Villa, in the context of the cooperation agreement, signed here on Feb. 22, 2002, between both ministries.
Villa, accompanied by Cuban ambassador, Marcelo Torres, was received by the director of America, Asia and Oceania department at the Congolese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lokosu Nkulufa Montomba, and then by the head of Division of the Africa and Middle East direction, Kintoki Kidima.
During the meetings, the two sides reviewed the state of bilateral relations, and confirmed the willingness of their governments to further invigorate political ties.
The head of the Cuban delegation and Nkulufa Montomba congratulated themselves particularly for the reopening of the embassy of the DRC in Havana, and the accreditation of an ambassador, who recently presented his credentials.
Cuban diplomat also took the opportunity during the interview with Kintoki Kidima to thank the sustainable support the DRC and the African continent give to the island in condemning the economic, financial, and commercial blockade illegally imposed by the United States for more five decades.
He referred to the condemnation resolution to the genocidal siege adopted by the African Union (AU) during the last day of the 26th Summit of Heads of State and Government, held on January 31 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
