The Eastern Caribbean governments issued a warning about the possible passage of the tropical storm Thomas, which could become a hurricane today.
The alert was declared in Barbados, Martinique, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and St. Lucia.
According to forecasts, the weather phenomenon, formed yesterday in the southern Caribbean, will be strengthened in the coming hours.
This morning, Thomas was located at 13.0 degrees north latitude and 59.7 degrees west longitude, about 25 miles west-southwest of Barbados and 54 miles east of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
The nineteenth storm of the current hurricane season has a minimum central pressure of 994 hPa, and is moving in a west-northwest direction at a rate of 26 kilometers per hour.
As that system gains in intensity, the Eastern Caribbean remains under the influence of heavy rains and winds accompanying the storm Shary, with category 1 on the Saffir-Simpson scale.
Shary, with maximum winds of 120 km per hour and a minimum central pressure of 989 hPa, is moving rapidly east northeast at 56 kilometers per hour.
