Correa and his accompanying delegation were welcomed at the Jose Marti International Airport in Havana by Rodrigo Malmierca, Cuban Minister of oreign Investment and Economic Cooperation.
“It is always a joy to come to Cuba and particularly on this occasion to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Revolution. It is an honor to be n this land of dignity, solidarity and Latin American spirit,” Correa told reporters at the airport.
The Ecuadorian head of state will stay in Cuba until next Saturday. His genda includes official talks with Raul Castro and visits to places of istoric, scientific and social interest.
Cuba and Ecuador established diplomatic relations on August 23, 1979. Currently, there are 216 Cuban specialists making their contribution in he South American country in the sectors of health, education and sports.
In addition, more than 61,000 Ecuadorian patients have recovered or mproved their sight thanks to the Operation Miracle free eye-surgery rogram promoted by Cuba and Venezuela and 1,829 Ecuadorian youths enjoy scholarships in Cuba.
