The eighth Conference of the Revolution Defense Committee (CDR) will conclude today after three days of discussions, focused on the social problems and the work of that mass organization.
The opening day of the forum was devoted to work in commissions, in which around 500 people, including guests and delegates, discussed about crime prevention and illegalities, as well as the internal work of the organization and other issues.
Attendance of Cuban president Raul Castro Ruz, marked the second day of the conference, when a discussion about the attendees, in full session this time.
Besides, Vice President Jose Ramon Machado Ventura and National People's Power Assembly President Esteban Lazo also attended the conference.
The national directive board of the mass organization, the largest in the country, with more than eight million members, took the opportunity to give the president a painting by Cuban painter Daussel Valdes.
The work shows the place where Lina Ruz, mother of the president and of the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, was born in Guane, in the western province of Pinar del Rio, around 100 kilometers from Havana.
According to the CDR coordinator Carlos Rafael Miranda, guest delegations from more than 10 countries are also attending the forum.
CDRs were founded on September 28, 1960, as an initiative of Fidel Castro and shape an organization composed of neighbors on each block, with an ascending structure that includes area, municipal, provincial and national authorities.
Prior to the forum, all the CDRs in the country, of which around eight million Cuban people are members, participated in a process of assemblies where they debated and analyzed the work done and they proposed strengthening the directive structures.
