European Solidarity Brigade Completes Fruitful Program in Cuba
The 37th Contingent of the “Jose Marti” European Solidarity-with-Cuba Brigade left the Caribbean archipelago Tuesday after fulfilling a program of voluntary work and visits to historical and social sites in central and western Cuba.

The 37th Contingent of the “Jose Marti” European Solidarity-with-Cuba Brigade left the Caribbean archipelago Tuesday after fulfilling a program of voluntary work and visits to historical and social sites in central and western Cuba.
The farewell ceremony was held at the Julio Antonio Mella International Camp in the municipality of Caimito, Habana province.
Belgian Edwin Carpentier, with the Brigade’s Coordinating Committee, said the opportunity to share with Cubans by doing voluntary work was an honor and an important element in the consolidation of a communist conscience of brigade members.
Carpentier, who read the Final Declaration of the 37th Contingent that arrived in Cuba on June 6, demanded the lifting of the US economic, commercial, financial blockade against the island and the immediate release of the Cuban Five, who are imprisoned in American jails for the only “crime” of having warned Cuba of terrorist attacks by right-wing groups in South Florida.
Likewise, the Europeans sent a message to the Honduran people in support of their struggle to recover their legal government with the reinstatement of President Manuel Zelaya.
The Cuban Friendship Institute’s President Kenia Serrano thanked the brigade for their stay in the island and highlighted the high spirit shown by the contingent in the agricultural work.
At present, there are 2, 074 associations of friendship with Cuba in 149 nations most of them in Europe, said Serrano.
The “Jose Marti” European Solidarity-with-Cuba Brigade is made up of around 250 members from 19 countries.
