Bolivian President Evo Morales met on Monday with visiting Cuban Culture Minister Abel Prieto at the Quemado Palace in La Paz.
Prieto traveled to the Bolivian capital accompanied by journalist Katiuska Blanco to present the book ‘La Paz en Colombia’ (Peace in Colombia) by the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, to whom Morales sent warm greetings.
According to Prensa Latina news agency, Prieto and Morales spoke of several topics of common interest such as the work of Cuban and Venezuelan teachers and activists in Bolivia that will allow the South American country to be the third in Latin America to declare itself free from the scourge of illiteracy by the end of the year.
Morales was also interested in the recovery efforts underway in Cuba after the passage of hurricanes Gustav, Ike and Paloma and commented on Bolivia’s initiatives to face the effects of climate change.
Before returning to the Caribbean nation, Abel Prieto announced that Bolivia and Cuba are exploring ways to increase bilateral cooperation in sectors such as literature, arts, etc.
During his stay in Bolivia, the Cuban Culture Minister also met with Education Minister Roberto Aguilar, and with Pablo Groux, deputy Minister of Culture Development, and he invited them to participate in the annual International Book Fair of Havana that takes place next February.
