The Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) on Tuesday is celebrating its 51st anniversary with its sight set on the urban and rural sector to maintain its contribution to the development of the Caribbean nation.
Founded on August 23, 1960, the organization, with more than four million members, leads the battle on discrimination against women and it is responsible for the presence of women in the society with high levels of equality.
For many, the facilities granted for self-employment in Cuba, including the delivery of idle lands in usufruct, along with the experience to represent 47 percent of those employed in the state sector, will enable women to be a determining force in the future.
FMC national secretariat member Teresa Hernandez recently said that the new facilities for self-employment will allow women to continue their contributions to the country's economic and social development.
