Flights Between Cuba and Mexico Resume on Monday

The Cuban News Agency reproduces a note from the Cuban Ministry of Public Health published on Friday by Granma and Juventud Rebelde news dailies regarding the resumption of flights between Cuba and Mexico next Monday.
“Considering the appearance in Mexico of Influenza A(H1N1), an unknown disease at that point, and the increase in cases reported, on April 30 flights were temporarily suspended to and from that sister nation as part of the preventive and International Health Control actions established by our National Health System.
“These measures contributed to reducing the risk of the introduction of the disease into our country, given that to date, no autochthonous or imported case has been reported among Cuban citizens; the four cases confirmed in Cuba, as appropriately informed, were of three Mexican students and a Canadian child.
“While the epidemic and the number of sick and dead has been spreading at a growing rate in nations, Cuba has strengthened and perfected its International Health Control and clinical/epidemiological monitoring measures, making it possible to reduce the possibility of the virus being introduced and the emergence of epidemic outbreaks. Moreover, we have acquired the means of protection and medications necessary to provide qualified medical attention to anyone who might be sick, as well as equipment for detecting fever syndrome among passengers, which has been installed in our international airports.
“Taking into account the aforementioned, it has been decided to render ineffective, as of June 1st, the measure adopted of “temporarily suspending” flights between Cuba and Mexico.”
