The 30th International Festival of New Latin American Cinema begins on Tuesday in Havana with a gala at the Karl Marx Theater in the Cuban capital.

The inauguration of the event includes a short movie by Enrique Alvarez dedicated to the 30th anniversary of this prestigious film festival and tributes to important figures of Cuban cinema such as Octavio Cortázar, Humberto Solás, Miguel Benavides and Sergio Corrieri.

The ceremony will also include an opening speech by Alfredo Guevara, President of the Festival, and a solo presentation by renowned dancer Carlos Acosta.

Also during the inauguration of the event, honorary awards will be presented to Jorge Sanjinés, Paul Leduc, Miguel Littin and Nelson Pereira dos Santos.

The gala will conclude with the screening of the film ‘Leonera’ by Argentinean filmmaker Pablo Trapero.

The 30th International Festival of New Latin American Cinema will run through December 12th.
