HAVANA, Cuba, Sept 18 (acn) More than 1,000 intellectuals from Latin America, the United States, Europe and Africa have joined a solidarity call made on Tuesday by their Cuban colleagues demanding the end of the US blockade against Cuba.
The message, which circulates on the Internet, recalls that Cuba was recently devastated by two powerful hurricanes and stresses that the Cuban people demands the immediate end of the almost-fifty-year-old US economic, financial and trade blockade of Cuba.
The call was made by a group of Cuban artists and intellectuals and all those who wish to subscribe to it can do it by visiting the website www.concubahoy.cult.cu.
Philosophers, actors, writers, journalists and jurists from 30 countries, including Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Venezuela, Italy, France, Greece, Australia, the United Kingdom and South Africa, have already expressed their support of the document.
“We appeal to the sensibility of intellectuals and artists from all over the world so that they demand the immediate lifting of the US blockade and promote actions in solidarity with Cuba,” the text reads.
“What Cuba is demanding is a human right, not charity,” said Prima Ballerina Assoluta Alicia Alonso, founder and director of the Cuban National Ballet.
