Iran Announces Opening of New Nuclear Reactor
Iran announced on Wednesday the opening of its first nuclear electricity generating plant in the southern locality of Bushehr and expressed its confidence that the European Union (EU) will correct its stance regarding the national atomic program.

Iran announced on Wednesday the opening of its first nuclear electricity generating plant in the southern locality of Bushehr and expressed its confidence that the European Union (EU) will correct its stance regarding the national atomic program.
Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi affirmed that the facility passed on Wednesday "one of the final and most important tests" before it starts functioning within two months. According to Akbar Salehi, the works reached a "point of no return" and nothing can hinder the opening of the facility that commenced construction in 1984 with the collaboration of Russia.
The INRA official agency recalled that the launch of Bushehr's nuclear power station was scheduled for the last months of 1999, but was successively postponed for different logistic and coordination reasons.
The announcement of the Islamic Republic has taken place amidst an uncertain atmosphere full of speculation regarding a possible US and Israeli military aggression to attempt to hold back the atomic program, which Tehran assures has peaceful ends.
The secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili announced willingness to resume talks, currently at a standstill, with some Western powers about that issue, but only from September and under certain conditions.
