More than 1,200 people from 56 countries will hold an International Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba on May 2, a day after the parades on the occasion of the International Workers' Day.
The event, as traditionally, will take place at Havana's Conference Center and will gain more significance, faced with the anti-Cuban media campaign unleashed from the United States and Europe, Granma newspaper reported on Thursday.
Union authorities announced that there will be special morning assemblies on Friday to finalize details of the parades on Saturday in the country's squares, streets and public spaces.
Los Van Van, Cuba's most popular salsa band, led by bassist Juan Formell, will perform on Thursday night among other orchestras in a cultural gala to be held at the Central Workers' Union (CTC) Lazaro Peña Theater.
The Committees for the Defense of the Revolution, the country's largest neighborhood organization with almost eight million members, convened the Cubans to participate in the parades en masse.
The CTC exhorted people this week to attend May Day activities in rejection of the harassment by large powers and to support the economic transformations in progress in the nation.
The parade will be an event to support the Revolution and the current changes in the Cuban economic model to guarantee the continuity of socialism and preservation of the national independence and sovereignty.
"We will join May Day celebrations on the island's streets and public squares, reaffirming our categorical support to the Revolution, the Cuban Communist Party, Fidel Castro and Raul Castro," the text said.
