The HIV/AIDS disease in Cuba mainly affects males, particularly those who have sex with other males, Maria Isela Lantero, responsible for the Prevention Program to the complaint, stated.
The prevalence of the disease in the island is the lowest in the region, 0.1 percent, being unprotected sex the main form of infection, Lantero said.
The mother-child transmission is minimal and that through blood and by-products is not considered a health problem, the expert noted.
Even when indicators state some improvements in people, increase condoms use in casual sex and satisfaction of people we provide care, are gaps to what remains to do, she stated.
The country has acquired and shared experiences for over 20 years to minimize ignorance, taboos, prejudices and negative attitudes faced with the most exhibited populations, supported by the UN.
Lantero highlighted how the Cuban HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Program has worked for great participation of the most vulnerable people through the increase of promotion, prevention, integral care, access to medicines, public awareness, and full integration of the civil society.
