More than 8 Million Cubans Voted in Local Elections
Some 8,094,419 Cubans casted their votes on Sunday to choose the delegates to the Legislative Assemblies of the country's 169 municipalities, according to the latest report by the National Electoral Commission (NEC).

Some 8,094,419 Cubans casted their votes on Sunday to choose the delegates to the Legislative Assemblies of the country's 169 municipalities, according to the latest report by the National Electoral Commission (NEC).
The NEC collected that information at 17:00 local time, two hours before the closing of the almost 30,000 polling stations set up nationwide.
The figure represents a 93.4 percent turnout, NEC's President Ana Maria Mari told the media.
She highlighted the transparency of the universal, secret polling and the massive participation of the people.
Some 30,000 polling stations nationwide opened Sunday for almost 8.5 million Cubans to elect 15,093 delegates among 34,077 candidates to make up the Municipal Assemblies of 169 municipalities.
The second round of elections is set for May 2 in those electoral districts in which none of the candidates obtains more than the 50 percent of the valid votes.
Mari stressed that the people felt motivated with this partial elections, particularly reaffirming their support to the political revolutionary process.
