The number of young Cubans currently working in the agricultural sector increased after Decree 259, outlining the government's intention to distribute idle land, came into effect.
Of the 22,918 young people carrying out farm work, more than 10,000 joined this sector to take advantage of the benefits of this law.
This figure will keep on increasing as idle lands continue to be allocated, noted member of the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP), Maria Mercedes Santana.
Quoted by Granma newspaper, Santana stressed that this initiative provides a new approach to this economic sector by adding skilled labor.
Nearly 3,775 women are involved in farming and cattle rearing, Santana highlighted.
