NAM Stands against Cuba Blockade

Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, Jul 16 (Prensa Latin) The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) rejected Thursday adoption and application of unilateral and extraterritorial coercive measures, particularly the US economic blockade on Cuba.
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak released at the summit's closing session a special resolution similar in title and content to those adopted by the UN General Assembly.
Participants in the forum recalled the 17 resolutions the UN General Assembly has already adopted on the need to end that punitive measure on Cuba and "several other declarations and resolutions from different governments, organizations, and inter-governmental forums."
The document condemns the unilateral economic sanctions and other illegal measures against international law that seek to press NAM countries.
Entitled "Necessity to put an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba," the declaration stresses that "for no reason should any country be deprived of its own means of subsistence and development."
The Washington-imposed economic siege on Havana has lasted 50 years and 70 percent of Cubans have been born under it, states the text verbally supported by 40 countries during debates by experts and foreign ministers.
Heads of State and Government "have been concerned over the continuation of that long-life unilateral policy with extra-territorial effects, despite having been consistently rejected by most of States."
NAM leaders also urged "the US government once more to immediately end the economic, financial, and trade blockade on Cuba."
