Nicaraguan President Welcomes Cuban Vice President
In a meeting with Cuban Vice President Ramiro Valdes Menendez, President Daniel Ortega ratified Nicaragua's unconditional solidarity with the Cuban people, and thanked Cuba for its efforts on behalf of Nicaragua and other countries.

In a meeting with Cuban Vice President Ramiro Valdes Menendez, President Daniel Ortega ratified Nicaragua's unconditional solidarity with the Cuban people, and thanked Cuba for its efforts on behalf of Nicaragua and other countries.
Ortega made his remarks during a Sunday night meeting with Valdes, a member of the Cuban Communist Party's Political Bureau and minister of informatics and communication.
Valdes arrived in Managua on Sunday afternoon, leading a delegation to attend the central celebration of the Sandinista Revolution's 31st anniversary.
In welcoming the Cuban leader, Ortega said that since the period of struggle against the Somoza dictatorship, the Nicaraguan people have always had "the firm solidarity of the glorious Cuban Revolution."
The Sandinista statesman referred to the recent "Reflections" columns by Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro, in which he warns of the imminent danger of a U.S. attack on Iran.
Nicaraguan Commander Tomas Borge, the only surviving founder of the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN) and a close friend of Ramiro Valdes since the two were their countries' respective interior ministers, also attended the meeting.
Other officials from the two countries also were present, including Rosario Murillo, coordinator of the Communication and Citizenship Council of Nicaragua, Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Abelardo Moreno, and Rene Ceballo, charge d'affaire of the Cuban embassy in Managua.
