The Cuban News Agency reproduces a note published by the Cuban Health Ministry on the Influenza A (H1N1) virus:
"REGARDING the three confirmed cases of Influenza A (H1N1) in our country, we inform the population that their clinical evolution has been satisfactory; they have been discharged from hospital, and are now carrying out their everyday student activities.
"Given their favorable evolution and no reports of further cases with respiratory symptoms from the epidemiological monitoring systems, it was decided yesterday to end the quarantine measures implemented at their medical school, and regular activities have been reestablished there.
"Today, a fourth case has been confirmed. This is a 14-month-old Canadian boy who arrived in Cuba with his parents from Toronto and, in the days following his arrival, presented fever and respiratory symptoms, and therefore was medically treated and hospitalized. He has evolved satisfactorily and is now asymptomatic, while he continues to receive specific anti-viral treatment. Epidemiological monitoring measures are being applied to his family and other individuals who had contact with him, and which include the prophylactic administration of anti-viral medication.
"The increased measures of epidemiological monitoring are still in place, including international health control actions in airports, ports and marinas.
"We reiterate to the population the importance of following the instructions issued in relation to personal and collective hygiene, as well as the necessity of approaching the country’s heath services in the case of presenting fever or respiratory symptoms.
"We are prepared to adopt the necessary measures, together with all other agencies and organizations, in line with the evolution of the international situation."
