The International Congress "Universidad 2016" will conclude here today with a program that includes a panel dedicated to the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and a speech by a Nobel Peace prizewinner.
The space "Fidel Castro and the development of innovative university," to be held today afternoon at the Havanas Conference Center, venue of the event, will be attended by leading experts, such as Agustin Lage, director of the Immune-Testing Vaccination Research Center of the Caribbean island.
Before that activity, todays first lecture will be led by Nobel Peace Prizewinner and former president of Timor Leste, Jose Manuel Ramos-Horta, who will debate the role of higher education in the sustainable and inclusive development of our peoples.
In another significant moment of this event, the secretary general of the Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Paulo Speller, will refer to the realities and challenges of higher education in the area.
Meanwhile, Havana Historian, Eusebio Leal, will give a lecture on "Innovation and university in the restoration and development of historical and cultural centers of our cities."
Workshops, panels and round tables that during the Congress were under the motto: "Innovative university for a sustainable human development," will continue in parallel, and before the closing ceremony scheduled for 16:00 local time.
Issues such as academic internationalization, Information Technology and Communications, the relationship among higher education centers and social progress, and the humanistic training of professionals, have focused discussions during this meeting.
The Congress ending today encourages dialogue of more than 3,000 intellectuals, academicians and students from 60 countries, on current issues related to higher education and social responsibility.
