The top subject for all political leaders is the economy, Cuban President Raul Castro stated during an expanded meeting of the Council of Ministers this weekend.
Participants in the meeting discussed the draft economic plan and budget for 2011, which will be analyzed and submitted to a vote in December in Parliament,the Granma newspaper reported Monday.
Describing the economic plan and budget as sacred instruments for economic leadership, Raul Castro emphasized the need to redouble exigency and ensure that everybody fulfills his or her duty.
"The responsibility of this plan belongs not only to the ministers, but also all company directors," the president said.
He called for applying real savings programs, saying they are the fastest and safest source to achieve resources.
Recalling a recent encounter between Fidel Castro and students at the University of Havana that highlighted remarks he made there in November 2005, Raul Castro noted that everyone who heard him appreciated that his ideas are the basis for everything that is being done today.
Marino Murillo, a vice president and the minister of Economy and Planning, presented the draft economic plan, regarding which several ministers spoke.
During the meeting, 13 proposals to enrich the 2011 draft plan and budget, and participants discussed proposals for improving the tax policy now being improved for its consequent application, Granma reported.
