Cuban President Raul Castro met on Monday with Vice Admiral Vladimir I. Koraliev, who heads a flotilla of Russian navy ships touring Cuba since last Friday.
According to Granma news daily, the meeting between Raul and Koraliev, who is also the Deputy Chief of the Russian Northern Fleet, took place in an environment of friendship and cooperation, which characterizes relations between the people, governments and armed forces of Cuba and Russia.
Also present in the meeting were Cuban Army Corps Generals Julio Casas Regueiro, Minister of the Cuban Armed Forces (FAR), and Alvaro Lopez Miera, FAR Vice Minister and head of the FAR’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, as well as Vice Admiral Pedro M. Perez Betancourt, head of the Cuban Navy, and Brigade General Arnaldo Tamayo Mendez.
The Russian side included Ambassador Mijail L. Kaminin; military attaché Col. Vladimir A. Androsov; Lieutenant Gen. Alexander M. Kasheiev and Captain Anatoli P. Dolgo, Commander of the destroyer Admiral Chabanenko.
The Russian ships, which are scheduled to sail back home on Tuesday, arrived in Havana on Friday as part of a Latin American tour that included stops in Venezuela and Nicaragua, and saw the ships pass through the Panama Canal for the first time since World War II.
