Cuban President Raul Castro visited the National Civil Defense Council Headquarters on Monday afternoon to specify on the measures taken to face hurricane Ike.


Raul was received by Division General Ramon Pardo Guerra, Head of the National Civil Defense Staff. He received ample information about Ike, its characteristics and probable path, from Doctor Jose Rubiera, head of the Forecast Center of the Cuban Meteorology Institute.


The president also received detailed information from Pedro Saez Montejo and Ulises Guilarte de Nacimento, heads of the Provincial Defense Councils in the two Havana provinces, about the measures taken in their respective territories.


Raul asked questions about the strength of the winds and the rains associated to the hurricane and called everybody's attention to the coastal flooding ocurring throughout the country.


He also asked about evacuations in the capital and Havana province and urged everyone to make a profound study of the atmospheric phenomena that have recently affected the country to come up with the most rational measures to face them.


Also present were Army and Interior Ministers, Generals Julio Casas Regueiro and Abelardo Colome Ibarra, as well as Leopoldo Cintra Frias, chief of the Western Army.
