Casa de las Americas chairman Roberto Fernandez Retamar said on Wednesday that solidarity with Cuba will grow among world intellectuals and artists.
The poet was referring to a message sent by Cuban intellectuals to their peers worldwide urging them to put pressure on the US government for the lifting of the 50-year-old blockade of the island.
Retamar stressed such a call is issued on the aftermath of hurricanes Gustav and Ike, which ravaged Cuba within a 10-day-period and destroyed thousands of houses, schools and cultural institutions.
The Cuban Literature Award winner noted that many American artists have condemned the cruel economic, trade, financial blockade.
Retamar s signature is among the first to appear in the appeal made by Cuban intellectuals under the title "With Cuba Today."
The text has been posted at http: www.uneac.org.cu, so it can be signed by other world intellectuals and artists.
