The Cuban First Vice President of the Councils of State and Ministers, Miguel Diaz-Canel, today continues his official visit to Russia with high-level meetings focused on issues of common interest.
Diaz-Canel and his accompanying delegation were welcomed by Putinm at the Kremlin yesterday.
His visit aims to assess the state of political, economic and trade relations between the two countries and review a group of major projects currently underway, as he declared to Prensa Latina.
Diaz-Canel also told Prensa Latina that these plans were developed as a result of proposals by both Russia and Cuba after President Vladimir Putin visit to Havana in July 2014.
In the context of the cordial meeting, as was described by the parties, the leaders reviewed the excellent state of relations between the two countries. They evaluated also experienced progress in economic and trade ties since 2014.
There are 'very interesting' joint projects in the energy, industrial and finance sectors, which will be the focus of discussion during the talks, he said.
The Cuban first vice president arrived in Moscow on Tuesday, May 24, from Belarus, where he had been received by President, Alexander Lukashenko, and other officials of the central European country, for an intense 48-hour visit.
Diaz-Canel agenda today includes laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, at the eternal flame located at the foot of the Kremlin Walls in Moscow.
Later, he met with Deputy Prime Minister, Dmitry Rogozin, who is a co-chair of the intergovernmental commission for bilateral cooperation.
He is also expected to hold talks with the chairman of the Federation Council (Senate), Valentina Matvienko; and then with Prime Minister, Dmitry Medvedev, at the headquarters of the executive.
The ties between Russia and Cuba date back for more than a century, but they reached an indestructible friendly dimension after the restoration of diplomatic relations on May 8th, 1960.
"With the visit of Diaz-Canel, the bonds of brotherhood and friendship between Cuba and Russia are strengthened," Deputy Foreign Minister, Rogelio Sierra, said in a comment on his Twitter account.
