The Service Employees International Union (SEIU), representing more than two million employees in the United States and Canada, called on George W. Bush and his administration to grant entry visas to Olga Salanueva and Adriana Perez so they can visit their husbands unfairly imprisoned in the US since 1998.
Olga Salanueva and Adriana Perez are the wives of Rene and Gerardo Hernandez, two of the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters who have been held in US jails for ten years now.
SEIU’s International President Andrew L. Stern signed the letter that was addressed to George W. Bush and copied to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Secretary of omeland Security Michael Chertoff and Attorney General Michael Mukasey.
The letter points out that Olga Salanueva has not seen her husband Rene Gonzales (sentenced to 15 years imprisonment) since 2002, while Adriana Peres has never been allowed to enter the US to visit her husband Gerarado Hernandez (sentenced to life imprisonment) since his arrest in 1998.
A report by the US National Committee to Free the Five sent to ACN says the largest unions in the United Kingdom have joined in a campaign to demand freedom for the uban Five. As part of that campaign, "Unite the Union" produced an excellent short video explaining the case of the Five, the report says.
