Cuban singer songwriter Silvio Rodríguez will start a tour in San Juan, Puerto Rico on May 30 that will cover several US cities.

Cuban singer songwriter Silvio Rodríguez will start a tour in San Juan, Puerto Rico on May 30 that will cover several US cities.
Prensa Latina reported that he left Havana via Panamá with the trio Tovarroco, the flutist Niurka Gonzalez and young percussionist Oliver Valdes.
The author of Ojalá told the press before boarding the plane on Wednesday in the José Martí International Airport that he supported the Puerto Rican students on strike for a month in protest to cuts in education and attempt to privatize the University of Puerto Rico; a movement also backed by important sectors of the people of that nation.
"For several days I have expressed my solidarity and admiration of them. They are young people who are possibly making the first civic actions in their personal history, their life as a student movement", he pointed out.
"Their protest will impose a civic stature that the generation did not have until then. I believe it is important because they are going to do things they can tell about in the future."
The well known singer songwriter, one of the founders of La Nueva Trova with Pablo Milanés, Noel Nicola, Vicente Feliú and Sara González also came out against the anti immigration law in Arizona approved last April 23 by the governor Han Brewer. It grants faculties for the police to detain any person suspected of being illegal. The measure has been repudiated in more than 70 US cities for its racist and discriminatory character.
"As any sensible person in this world I am against the Arizona law and all laws that discriminate persons treating them like beasts who go the United States seeking work", he commented.
After 30 years without receiving visas to enter US territory, Silvio will offer several concerts in different cities of that country.
On June 4 he will appear on the state of Carnegie Hall in New York where all the tickets have been sold out. The demand was such that it was necessary to prepare an extra function. He also plans concerts in Oakland, Los Angeles, Orlando and Florida.
Last year the author of La era está pariendo un corazón (The era is giving birth to a heart) was unable to participate in the homage to folk singer Pete Seeger for his 90th birthday by not receiving a visa from the United States State Department.
His last tour in the country was in 1979 together with Pablo Milanés.
The tour will include emblematic songs and several from his new record, Segunda Cita, presented here in Casa de las Americas and considered "an homage to the last five decades of Cuba."
