The recent European meeting of solidarity with Cuba, held in Sofia, capital of Bulgaria, has overcrowded solidarity with the island and opened greater possibilities to coordinate international actions to support that country.
Maria Titova, a Russian delegate to the referred event, held on May 15-16 in the Bulgarian capital, told Prensa Latina.
Several friends of Cuba attended the Sofia forum. This allowed us to expand contacts for possible future actions for the release of Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero, Rene Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino and Fernando Gonzalez, Titova said.
The Cuban Five, as they are universally known, are currently serving harsh sentences in US jails for over 11 years, after a rigged trial, lack of evidences held in Miami.
"I think this do not only concern to coordinate solidarity actions with Cuba, but to materialize acts for justice, defense of the truth and just causes," the delegate stated.
"The idea is to create an information center about Latin America, to spread history, culture, habits and revolutions," she said.
Germany will host the coming event of solidarity with Cuba. Although its friendship society with the island is young, it was capable of setting up a network of committees in several German cities, Titova said.
