Peruvian solidarity organizations asked again U.S. President Barack Obama that free three Cubans who were part of the Cuban Five and remain unjustly imprisoned in that northern country.
The letter was sent yesterday, as part of the campaign "Five Days for the Cuban Five," the Peruvian Committee of Solidarity with the Five, its youth wing, and the Center of Peruvian Intellectuals for the Five is holding every month.
"Arrange you the release of the three Cubans who remained imprisoned in the United States for the better part of two decades; the whole world asks you but, undoubtedly, your conscience should order you," the letter says.
The document states that September 12 will mark 16 years since the arrest of Ramon Labañino, Gerardo Hernandez and Antonio Guerrero, victims of an iniquitous sentence for crimes they never committed.
The three fighters were imprisoned along with their companions Rene and Fernando Gonzalez, who were already released and have returned to their homeland.
The Cuban Five were detained when collecting public information in Florida on terrorist groups, attacks against their country, and were wrongfully accused of spying and terrorism, charges that had to be removed but the Cubans were also sentenced to unjust sentences.
As part of the campaign "Five Days for the Cuban Five," a talk about university education in Cuba was carried out, by young Peruvians studying at the Latin American School of Medicine and other academic centers of the island.
